We warm up on the world‑renowned Tiger Leaping Gorge trail, then advance step by step into Yubeng, a village sheltered beneath Kawagebo (also spelled Kawagarbo), the holiest summit of the Meili range. Over consecutive trekking days you will test physical limits, elevate the spirit, and complete an unforgettable walking epic.

What to Expect

An 8‑day, staircase‑style ascent that transitions you from everyday city rhythms into a quiet highland sanctuary: cobbled old‑town ease as the opening frame, a perspective‑shifting warm‑up along the High Trail of Tiger Leaping Gorge, butter‑lamp blessings and sunset glow at Feilaisi over Meili’s peaks, then three immersive nights inside Yubeng—the “inner circle” where the Ice Lake tests resolve and the (optional) Sacred Waterfall ritual closes the emotional loop. A narrative arc where physical peak and inner settling meet.

  • Dual iconic treks in one trip: Tiger Leaping Gorge High Trail + Yubeng
  • Layered altitude acclimatization: reduces shock for sea‑level travellers
  • 3 consecutive nights in Yubeng: stars, snow peaks, dawn mist—uninterrupted immersion
  • Optional recovery day forming a “Peak Effort → Buffer” structure

Itinerary

Day 1 Lijiang(Old Town Meet-Up – The Calm before Wind and Snow)

  • All Day: Teammates from across China / the world gather in UNESCO-listed Lijiang Old Town. No fixed group program: check in, stroll the cobbled alleys, finish last‑minute gear and mental prep for the high‑effort days ahead.
  • Evening: Detailed pre‑trek briefing covering daily stages, altitude profile, safety notes, and—most importantly—key points for trekking into Yubeng.
  • Service Details:
    • Accommodation: Ctrip-rated 4 Diamond hotel.
    • Meals: None included.
    • Elevation: ~2,400 m.
    • Physical Effort: None (rest / acclimatization).

Day 2 Lijiang → Tiger Leaping Gorge → Shangri-La (Gorge Warm-Up – First Edge)

  • Morning: We start with the “High Trail” of Tiger Leaping Gorge—often listed among the world’s top classic hikes—as an appetizing warm‑up. Drive to the gorge; luggage is sent by driver to the hike end so we can go light. Start at Tea Horse Guesthouse and cover two highlight segments (total ~10 km). Midway we pause at Halfway (Zhongtu / “Midway”) Guesthouse: coffee, a little day‑dreaming, balcony views of the river far below and the opposing cliffs where Jade Dragon and Haba Snow Mountains squeeze the canyon into a dramatic slot.
  • Afternoon: After finishing the essence of the High Trail, drive onward to Shangri-La—poetically revered locally as the “sun and moon.” Check into a well‑located branded hotel to recharge for the pilgrimage stages ahead.
  • Service Details:
    • Accommodation: Ctrip-rated 4 Diamond hotel.
    • Meals: Breakfast included.
    • Trekking: ~10 km, ~5 hrs; ↑100 m / ↓300 m.
    • Drive: ~4 hrs total, ~180 km.
    • Elevation: ~3,300 m.
    • Physical Effort: 🔥🔥 (Moderate warm‑up).

Day 3 Shangri-La → Deqin (Toward the Sacred Mountain – Prologue)

  • All Day: We now begin the pilgrimage to Meili Snow Mountain, visiting the Jinsha River’s great “Moon Bay” bend and the quieter Ganden Dongzhulin Monastery. With fewer tourists, the Tibetan monastic atmosphere is clearer; you may light a yak‑butter lamp for blessings on the journey ahead. [Photos]
  • Dusk / Evening: Arrive at Feilaisi (Feilai Temple) viewing area in Deqin, the prime platform for Meili vistas. If skies cooperate, The sunset glow  pours over the 13 Prince Peaks—pure awe. Tonight: Tibetan hotpot dinner to load energy before higher‑effort days.
  • Service Details:
    • Accommodation: Ctrip-rated 3 Diamond hotel in Deqin (twin or double).
    • Meals: Breakfast + Tibetan hotpot dinner.
    • Drive: ~4 hrs, ~190 km.
    • Elevation: ~3,400 m.
    • Physical Effort: 🔥 (Light).

Day 4 Deqin → Yubeng Village (The Initiation Test – Trekking In)

Note on Access: Occasionally entry to Yubeng is restricted (weather, safety, regulation). If closure occurs we will inform you promptly and, based on group preference, substitute alternate sites around Shangri-La or implement agreed after‑sales solutions.
  • Morning: Say goodbye to vehicle and suitcase (horse pack service or storage optional, self‑paid). From Ninong Village trailhead we begin a sustained ascent—the famous “initiation test” of Yubeng. It challenges stamina and mindset. As you sweat up the slope and round the turns, sudden windows reveal sacred peaks such as Miancimu and Jiwaren’an— fatigue evaporates.
  • Afternoon: Reach Yubeng—often romanticized as “the last hidden earthly haven.” Snow peaks encircle the village; urban noise disappears, replaced by silence and soft village sounds. Tonight we sleep beneath stars and white summits.
  • Service Details:
    • Accommodation: Characterful guesthouse in Yubeng (twin or double).
    • Meals: Breakfast included.
    • Trekking: ~14 km, ~7 hrs; ↑~900 m (2,150 m → 3,050 m).
    • Drive: ~1.5 hrs, ~40 km (to trailhead).
    • Sleeping Elevation: ~3,050 m.
    • Physical Effort: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (Strenuous sustained climb).

Day 5 Yubeng (Ice Lake Challenge – Into the Mountain’s Heart)

  • All Day: The ultimate physical test. We trek toward the inner heart of Meili to the Ice Lake—an emerald glacial melt lake. Route passes through original forest and Xiaonong Base Camp memorial honoring members of the former Sino‑Japanese mountaineering team who lost their lives. When the jade‑green lake framed by sacred peaks appears, expect a visceral sense of purity. Guests who feel spent may opt to remain in the village: slow walks, local rhythm, rest.
  • Service Details:
    • Accommodation: Yubeng guesthouse (twin or double).
    • Meals: Breakfast included.
    • Trekking: ~18 km, ~9 hrs; cumulative ↑/↓ ~900 m.
    • Max Elevation: ~3,800 m.
    • Physical Effort: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (Very strenuous).

Day 6 Yubeng (Sacred Waterfall – Recovery & Blessing)

  • All Day: After yesterday’s peak output, today is a relative active recovery. Enjoy coffee, snow‑mountain views, a cat or two, unhurried village life.
  • Optional Core Experience: Those still energetic follow the guide to the Sacred Waterfall—an essential point on Meili’s inner kora (pilgrimage circuit). Local belief: circling three times may wash away sins and gain the mountain’s protection. Compared with Ice Lake, this path is noticeably easier.
  • Service Details:
    • Accommodation: Yubeng guesthouse (twin or double).
    • Meals: Breakfast included.
    • Trekking (Optional): ~11 km, ~7 hrs; ↑/↓ ~600 m.
    • Max Elevation: ~3,650 m.
    • Physical Effort: 🔥🔥🔥 (If hiking) or Rest (Free time).

Day 7 Yubeng → Shangri-La (Farewell to the Sacred Realm – Honored Return)

  • Morning: Early departure from hidden Yubeng via the Ninong Grand Canyon route. Mostly downhill along a river valley—a contrasting landscape to the inward ascent. [Photos]
  • Afternoon: Rejoin our coach at Ninong Village and drive back to Shangri-La carrying fatigue, stories, and accomplishment.
  • Farewell Dinner: A celebratory meal. Each guest may (voluntarily) write reflections, messages to teammates, or brand feedback—creative free form welcome.
  • Service Details:
    • Accommodation: Ctrip-rated 4 Diamond hotel in Shangri-La (twin or double).
    • Meals: Hotel breakfast (farewell dinner included if pre‑arranged—confirm in final brief).
    • Trekking: ~14 km, ~5 hrs; ↓~900 m (3,050 m → 2,150 m).
    • Drive: ~4 hrs, ~190 km.
    • Elevation: ~3,300 m.
    • Physical Effort: 🔥🔥🔥 (Sustained descent + long transfer).

Day 8 Shangri-La → Lijiang (Until We Meet Again)

  • All Day: Departure day. Drive back to Lijiang; drop-off at Lijiang Sanyi Airport (ETA ~13:30). You may also exit earlier at Shangri-La Airport or continue onward travel. A demanding yet richly rewarding journey concludes—until next time.
  • Service Details:
    • Meals: Hotel breakfast.
    • Drive: ~3 hrs, ~190 km.
    • Elevation: ~2,400 m.
